Amber Wit — Cool
A Portrait of Adaptability and Charm
"The Amber Wit" captures the quiet intelligence of the fox. To me, the fox is the ultimate symbol of adaptability—a creature that thrives in both the wild forest and the city streets. This resilience resonates with my own journey of moving from Hong Kong to Australia and reinventing my career from the factory floor to the art studio. We adapt, we learn, and we survive.
From a technical perspective, painting a fox is a test of a hairstylist’s patience. The coat isn't just one colour; it is a complex mix of copper, rust, and white guard hairs. I digitally sculpted the fur to look soft enough to touch, while using my toolmaker’s discipline to capture the sharp, alert structure of the skull. The background splashes of teal and soft orange represent the changing seasons—the environment this clever creature navigates with ease.
