Carefree Cruise — Wood
A Portrait of Friendship and Unfiltered Joy
"The Carefree Cruise" is a celebration of doing things your own way. Who says you can't skate in a dress? To me, this piece captures the pure, unburdened joy of a Sunday afternoon with friends. It represents the freedom that comes when you stop worrying about "looking the part" and just enjoy the ride.
This artwork blends the rigid perspective of my toolmaker training with the organic flow of my stylist background. The road is drawn with precise, vanishing-point geometry to create depth and speed. In contrast, the figures are loose and playful—I focused on capturing the wind in their hair and the way the fabric of their dresses whips around them, freezing a moment of pure laughter and motion.
About the Cross-Hatch Technique: In this edition, the ink work serves to separate the rigid world from the free spirit. I used dense, uniform cross-hatching to give the asphalt weight and linear perspective, while the figures are sketched with lighter, sweeping strokes. This deliberate contrast allows the white of the paper to shine through the dresses, creating a sense of lightness and wind against the heavy road.
Wood Print: An organic, textured alternative for a modern industrial feel.
Depth Beyond the Line The thousands of strokes in my digital crosshatching find a perfect partner in the natural texture of birch wood. Our wood prints offer a tactile, rustic experience that paper cannot replicate. By revealing the wood grain through the highlights of the artwork, each piece gains an extra layer of warmth and depth.
FSC-Certified: Sustainably sourced wood for a conscious home.
Thickness Options: Select 10mm for a subtle profile or 20mm for a substantial gallery presence.
Uniquely Yours: The natural variation in the wood grain makes your specific print a unique original.
