A Portrait of Courage and New Beginnings

"The Brave Little Venture" captures that universal feeling of being small in a big world. Standing on the edge of the ice, this little penguin represents the courage it takes to take your first steps—whether it's a child learning to walk or an adult starting a new chapter. It resonates with my own journey of moving to a new country and starting over; sometimes you just have to stand tall and trust your feet.

This piece is a deliberate study in texture contrast. I rendered the ice blocks using the rigid, cross-hatched lines of a technical drawing—a nod to my toolmaker background where structure is everything. In the center sits the penguin, painted with the soft, chaotic fluffiness of a hairstylist’s touch. It is a visual reminder that softness can survive even in the hardest environments.
